The last time I went to Reading Terminal Market I drooled my way through the entire place. It was my first time there I was overwhelmed by all the amazing things! Yesterday as part of our Valentine’s Day festivities fiancé and I hit up the market in search of ingredients for dinner. We had plans to make a Valentine’s meal together so we figured the market would be the place to go!
Reading Terminal Market has been a popular source for unique merchandise and lots of incredible food! It is a popular tourist destination as well because it’s right in the heart of Center City. Over 80 merchants in the market offer fresh (and lots of local!) produce, meats, fish, cheese, wine, flowers, baked goods, arts and crafts and other specialty foods. There’s also a beer garden! It’s a one stop shop!
We walked around for a while and took it all in. There is so much to see and Sunday’s at the market are BUSY! After perusing all the options, we decided we wanted to have crab cakes for dinner. We got some from the fish market. I love their motto:
“Eat Fish, Live Longer”
Lots of options here!
Yum! Homemade crab cakes! Good price too!
Then we decided we wanted to have some nice wine and cheese before dinner. We decided to hit up Down Town Cheese.
They had every type of cheese you could ever want!
So many choices, it was hard to decide! We tasted a few different kinds (ALWAYS TASTE BEFORE YOU BUY!) and finally decided on 2 different kinds we like.
When we got home we opened one of our cheese choices. We had the Etorki cheese, which is made from sheep’s milk. It was melt in your mouth, creamy and delicious. Just an incredible cheese!
Do you have a favorite type of cheese?
We enjoyed our cheese and crackers with a nice glass of red wine. It was pure perfection!
Then we just had to heat up the crab cakes (350* for 10 minutes) and dinner was ready. Super quick and easy!
I heated up some Brussels Sprouts with my cakes, fiancé had some rice with his.
The cakes were ok, sadly it tasted like more filler than crab. Don’t you hate it when that happens? Oh well, I guess you get what you pay for! We saw another vendor who was selling crab cakes that looked like they may have had more meat to them – maybe we will try them next time. I ended up eating only 1 cake because it was very filling.
It was nice to venture out into the city and find local ingredients for our Valentine’s meal. I had lots of fun and I can’t wait for the weather to get warmer out. I can envision fiancé and I taking many bike rides down to the market for more exciting eats!

I wish I lived in a city that had markets like that! Totally jealous!
We were able to visit Reading Terminal Market last year. I was in such awe and so jealous that we do not have markets like that here. You got some very good food finds.
I know all about that market, when I was working at the PHL airport for a month, I would take the train downtown about 3/4 days per week, and I would go to the market, Trader Joe's and most times a brewry, before I would head back to the hotel. I had a good time in your city.
oh my gosh, i've been dying to go to the reading terminal market for months now. something always ends up getting in the way. but now you've just made me even more motivated!
