I have been struggling for the past 2 days. Struggling. After the race this past Sunday, I felt fine. All day Monday I felt ok too, but then yesterday and today my foot has been killing me. It’s so random because after the immediately after the race and even 24 + hours later my foot felt fine. This pain came out of nowhere. I hope its just a little sore/minor strain and some rest will heal it right up!
It’s on my left foot, on the outside of my foot, opposite my arch.
Side Note: Check out my awesome toe ring. I have one on each foot. I have had both of them on for 5 years. I run with them and everything. Never take them off. Random fact of the day! 🙂
Back to my foot pain – I have been using the RICE method for the past 2 evenings.
Rest. Ice. Compression. Elevation
Are you familiar with this method? I have used it in the past for minor injuries and it’s worked like a charm, so I am hoping for the same outcome this time since I have another race next weekend. I got to get out there and run again ASAP!
So I have been resting my leg as much as possible. Wearing comfortable shoes and trying to stay off it and not put too much pressure on it unnecessarily.
Sitting with my foot in a bucket of ice the past 2 nights hasn’t been easy. It’s so very painful the first 30-45 seconds.
Luckily Jackson was there to support me.
He’s such a good little buddy!
For compression I have been wearing my Recovery Socks for a few hours each day too.
Lots of elevation too! My foot feels better when it’s lifted up on a big pillow. Or maybe its just that I feel better laying down on the couch with my feet up! Either way, it works!
I also busted out a little treat I bought myself when I ran 6.2 miles of the NYC Marathon a few months ago.
I got these for Aileen after she ran her first Marathon and I liked them so much I had to get me a pair too! They are soothing booties!
You put them in the microwave for a few minutes and they are hot at the bottom of the sole. They warm your feet right up.
They made my feet feet pretty good. The heat was good for my injured foot.
These bad boys were very relaxing. They also had aromatherapy scents in the bottom of the sole too, so they smelled very nice!
They are the perfect at home pampering for after a nice long run/race/ or to nurse a sore foot!
Which do you prefer to fix a minor injury – ice or heat?
Also – Check out Kelly’s video from the Disney Princess Half. It’s up on Meghann’s site. Check it out here. I make a few appearances in the video! It looks awesome!

bummer about your foot. hope it gets better soon.
oh man i want one of those booties. could really use those. i think they should also make one for shins 🙂
I'm a big RICE fan too… even when I'm not hurting, after long runs I do it "just in case." Good excuse for a bit of lounging ;). I talked to a sports med doc recently who mentioned cold is better for new injuries or soreness while heat is better for old injuries, like that nagging old sports injury. Just thought I would share that. Whatever makes you better faster though!
ick, so sorry about your foot my love! If I were you I would try to squeeze a massage out of the fiance 😉
I'm sorry to hear about the foot. I hope you feel 100% soon.
