Last weekend, fiancé and I were able to cross something special off our ‘To-Do in Philadelphia” list – tour the Philadelphia Brewing Company!
We have been talking about doing this for the past year, but we have never been able to squeeze it into our crazy schedule. The tour and tasting is only open on Saturdays from 12:00 until 3:00 so it was nice to find the time to get down here to check it out!
We got to the Brewery with some time before the tour and were handed a sheet with all the beer they have available on tap for the day. When you come to tour the brewery you get to sample all the beers available that day for free! Woohoo!
We immediately got to work tasting! It’s a hard job, but somebody has to do it!
This tour reminded me of the Sam Adams Brewery Tour we went on in Boston, but it showed a little more behind the scenes action.
I loved the pink elephant in the room!
I really enjoyed this tour much more than the Sam Adams tour because we got to see so much more of the packaging process.
The brewing magic happens upstairs and the bottling magic happens downstairs. I love that its all in one building and we got to see it all!
I was really excited to see the bottles in the line-up!
Our tour guide was pretty cool, it makes such a big difference when you have a fun guide walking you through the process!
This little mirror lets you see the top of this container which hold all the bottle caps!
While the tour went on and the drinking (tasting!) continued!
We even got to go into a separate area where they keep all the boxes for packaging. Everything is done in house and then distributed locally. It’s a pretty sweet operation.
This tour was a beer lover’s heaven!
After the tour officially finished, it was time for the tasting to continue upstairs.
We all got to work tasting the 7 beers on tap. I have had a few PBC beers before but it was really fun to come and tour the facility and see where the brewing magic happens.
All the beers were really good – I couldn’t pick a favorite!
Kevin, Meredith, Fiancé and I had a fun afternoon at the brewery together!
Have you ever had any Philadelphia Brewing Company beers? What’s your favorite?
I really enjoyed the Pharmhouse Arrest, Walt Wit, Rowhouse Red and Fleur de Lehigh - but everything was very tasty!
What’s your favorite local beer or wine? Are there fun tastings where you live? I really enjoyed my time at the PBC – it’s a great place to take visitors to check out local Philly brews!

i will have to check this place out. i love a good taste testing of beer. i was at iron hill saturday night and our waitress let us taste just about every seasonal beer on the menu-for free! it was lovely.
also, i enjoy the fiance's phillies champs shirt.
Seems like a great tour! I know someone in my house who would love this beer tour!
looks like so much fun! 🙂
I did not have any of that beer during my time working at the PHL airport it looks like I missed out. We all went on the Redhook tour in Seattle, and when the tour started the guide asked us if we wanted to learn about beer or just see how much we could drink in 90 minutes, well all I will say is that it was a long walk home, but when we reached the house we were thirsty again.
