Loving That Chicago Deep Dish Pizza

Clearly during my short time in Chicago for the Healthy Living Summit I had a few ‘must-do’s’ on a little list. There were a few things that I had to fit in during my visit to Chi-Town.

Ok, my list was really short. I wanted to go see The Bean (aka Cloud Gate) and I wanted to eat some awesome deep dish pizza!

A few bloggers got into town early and already assessed the pizza situation so I had an idea of where I wanted to go.

We decided to hit up Gino’s East, which came highly recommended as an amazing place to go for classic Chicago deep dish!

HLS 244

I liked to assume the place was a hit because when we got there Saturday night the line was super long!

HLS 245

The good thing was we were able to get beers from the bar inside and drink them while we waited!

I got the local Goose Island Summer Brew, and it was delish!

Drinking beers in line sure made time fly!

After a little bit of a wait outside we finally made it to the front of the line and we were ready to eat!

I was surprised to find that the inside of the restaurant had graffiti on all the walls, chairs, stairs…pretty much EVERYWHERE.

It was pretty cool decor if you ask me.

After we were seated I decided to get comfortable in my seat. I was told earlier in the evening that when you order a deep dish it takes an additional 45-55 minutes to get your dinner! Wow!

Beck, Lindsay, Jen and I decided on trying a Large pizza split in half with two separate pizza toppings on each side.

We went with half a Spinach and half a Four Cheese because we were intrigued by the garlic butter base. How can that not be awesome!?

While we waited I took in the scenery and enjoyed talking with my new blog friends.

I even ventured around the restaurant and found a La Croix in a glass bottle! I have never seen this before, have you??

After waiting for a bit our pizza finally appeared!

HLS 296

I was a little nervous at first because I am not the biggest fan of tomatoes, but I decided to be adventurous and just go for it, and I am SO glad I did!

HLS 297

This thing might possibly be the best thing I have ever eaten. It was amazing. The spinach was incredible and the pizza was so cheesy but at the same time so light.

HLS 298

OMG! My favorite part was the crust. It was TO. DIE. FOR!

HLS 299

After slice #1 it was time to go back for the Four Cheese slice, which was just as good as the first. I was in pizza heaven.

The best part about this pizza was that even though the pizza slices were big, we each had 2 pieces and we weren’t stuffed. We were happily and comfortably full. Not overly full. It was the perfect amount of food!

I had so much fun hanging out with these ladies! The pizza was just the perfect ending to a fun filled day with new friends!

And we ate every last bite!

I'm a native Chicagoan and Gino's East is my favorite. I love Lou Malnati's crust, though!

I was at Gino's during a Chicago visit last month! I even see our table in your picture….we were so hungry though, that we didn't want to wait for the pizza (although had the thin crust a few years ago and that was good as well!), so had pasta instead which was super good too! And the salad was yum too! We went on a Saturday night as well, and the line looked like the one you were in! I think it's normal there. Now I am so hungry after reading this, can't wait to go back and try deep dish.

I just slobbered all over my keyboard. Deep dish delish. And Goose Island is pretty amazing.

I never made it to Gino's and it looks like I should have tried!

I am so happy you had such a great time in my town. Wow, that sounds funny to say, "MY" town, but I'm just meaning I live here. I LOOOVEEE our Chicago pizza. Isn't it grand? (Also my personal favorite is Giordano's and if you want a frozen one sent to your house you can order from their website…just an FYI!!) 😉 Hope to see you at the next HLS!! yay!

We are headed to Lou Malnati's for pizza when we go to Chicago so you will be able to see which one you thought was best. That place looked like a whole lot of fun with all that graffiti and decor and of course hanging out with new friends.
