Kate’s Surprise 30th Birthday

The highlight of this past weekend was celebrating a dear friend’s birthday party in the best possible way to have a party – with a SUPRISE!

Surprise parties are the best, especially when they are executed correctly and this one definitely was!

The party was for my good friend Kate who is one of my favorite roommates from the past! We lived together in Conshohocken for a while with my other good friend Jill. The three of us had a blast there and I am so happy we all found each other and became roomies. We owe finding each other to craigslist if you can believe it or not!

Anyone else find a roommate on craigslist?! I’ve done it twice and both times have worked out great. I got 4 amazing friends from it!

Back to the party! When fiancé and I first got to the location of the party we hung out for a bit waiting for everyone to arrive before we could surprise the guest of honor. Kate’s mom and sister decorated the space so cute! I was immediately drawn to the beautiful cake!Kate is a math teacher, so how cute is it that there were math symbols all around the cake!? I loved it!

After having a photo shoot with the lovely cake, I was drawn next to the lovely bar! Lots of fun drinks for the party. Then it was time to surprise the birthday girl.

It was a great surprise! It turns out she had absolutely no idea, her reaction coming into the room was priceless!Fiancé and I were just excited to be a part of it all.

I was also excited about the evening because aside from surprising Kate for her birthday, I got to spend the evening with newlyweds Jill and AJ!

The new Mr. & Mrs and the soon to be Mr. & Mrs!  Love was in the air!

After the big surprise it was time to eat. There was a lovely spread of fruit and veggies and sandwiches. I enjoyed a little of everything. Then we needed a picture of just the girls!

And then it was time to cut the cake!

Fiancé helped light the candles.

Kate blew kisses and thanked everyone for coming.

Make a wish Kate!

I was very excited for the cake. It was chocolate cake with chocolate icing and raspberry filling! Yum!

Cake makes me happy! It was also more fun to eat it because I ran 11 miles on Saturday morning! If that doesn’t deserve a nice slice of cake, then I don’t know what does!

Do you have any good surprise party stories?  What did you do this past weekend?

Please give Kate my best and wish her a Happy Birthday! Loved the cake and all the roommate/boy photos. Isn't it great that you are all such good friends. It will be fun to look back on this day in 30 more years. Hope you all will stay connected!
