On Friday, Fiancé and I took advantage of one of my favorite events in Philadelphia every year –
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Restaurant Week it is offered a few times a year, usually Fall and Spring I believe, when participating Philadelphia restaurants offer 3 (and sometimes 4) courses for $35/person.
I am always saying to fiancé that we need to take more advantage of living into the city and check out more local restaurants! Restaurant week is the perfect time to do just that.
The menus are set and you get to choose from a few choices for an appetizer, main course and dessert. It’s a great way to try out some new places to eat.
Fiancé was in charge of picking the location for our restaurant week dinner this time and in true manly man fashion, he chose a steakhouse. 🙂
We had reservations at Smith & Wollensky which is located in Rittenhouse Square in Center City.
I loved the decor in the restaurant. The inside features polished wood floors with brass trim with whimsical American antiques and original artwork decorate the walls.
It is a two story steakhouse. The ground level is a casual bar, and the second level, which is where we ate, showcases a lovely view of Rittenhouse Square.
Fiancé and I started off with some amazing bread. It was doughy and fabulous. We ate it all! It was YUM!
I also loved the cute little salt and pepper shakers on the table.
We started off the meal with a lovely glass of red.
Cheers to Restaurant Week!
I also loved that the cutlery had the restaurant name on the stem.
Here was our menu for the special. I thought it gave a good selection of choices for us to pick from.
Fiancé and I shared some appetizers. We started off with the split pea soup because apparently it is something the restaurant is known for.
It was very yummy. I love split pea soup.
We also had a Cesar salad. It was delish.
For my main course I had the grilled Atlantic salmon.
It wasn’t the best salmon I have ever had but it was tasty.
Fiancé picked a steakhouse for one reason – so he could get a steak! He got the filet and enjoyed it.
Being the chocolate pro that I am, I obviously knew to save room for dessert. We were going to get a tiramisu and a chocolate cake but they were out of the tiramisu so we ordered 2 chocolate cakes!
It was very chocolaty! Just like I like it – the perfect way to end a lovely meal.
Do you have a Restaurant Week near you? Do you participate? What’s your favorite restaurant you’ve tried out from an event like this?

That looks like a great restaurant! I actually live in the Philly area also! I'm going to Butcher and Singer on Friday for Restaurant Week. I can't wait!
my boyfriend and i went to el vez last friday with some friends (its one of my favorite places). there were 4 FULL SIZE courses, and of course everything was absolutely delicious. however, we spent almost as much on drinks as we did on food! 🙂
Hubby and I try to do Restaurant week in both Philly and South Jersey. The big benefit of working in once place and living in another…
We have it twice a year in Norfolk, once in January and once in July. Virginia Beach has one, too, but I've never taken advantage.
Resturant week is the best. I went to about 3 or 4 of the featured resturants last year in Chicago.
My favorite place was Carnivale because I was flooded with memories.
Yes, DC has restaurant week and I recently went with some girlfriends to Old Town, Alexandria and frequented The Chart House, which is right on the Potomac River. The view was amazing and the food was excellent. I agree with you, it's always fun to try a new restaurant! Glad you and fiance had a lovely time.
