Subtitled – Friday, Flood Day – Fun Day!
Greetings! If you live on the East Coast the past few days you probably experienced a lot of heavy rains and if you don’t live over here, I am sure you have heard about it on the news! As most of my readers know, I currently reside in Philadelphia, and today I woke up to a mass amount of flooding a short walk away from my front door!
You might think these pictures look familiar to you. That’s because I am showing you what my beloved Kelly Drive looks like today1
Fiancé and I woke up today to a big surprise! The majority of the area surrounding our apartment was completely flooded. The river had risen up to the streets and water is everywhere!
Somewhat flooded in at our apartment, we watched a majority of the action on the local news, but then ventured out to check out the action for ourselves!
I went dressed in my rainy day best – raincoat and boots – so I could splash a bit in the water. You all know how much I love that Schuylkill water!
Our area was so bad along Kelly Drive that the news crews were broadcasting live right outside our apartment!
So I am not quite sure if these pictures put into perspective the actual amount of water that is on our roads, especially if you aren’t familiar with the area, just know that the water doesn’t normally come up to the stoplights! 🙂
I couldn’t look at the water without stepping in it a bit!
Note the speed limit sign on the left – that should put the amount of water we have here in perspective!
In other news – I enjoy sharing my shoes with my readers, because I am a serious shoe lover. Aren’t my rain boots super cute? If you are going to wear rain boots, they have to be a fun pattern or color, obviously! I heart Nordstroms! 🙂
Behind the tree line in the middle of the picture, that is where the water is supposed to be, only its usually down about 5 feet from there where the water wall is!
Sick of looking at pictures of the flooding yet?
I know there is a road under there somewhere!
So, this is what Kelly Drive usually looks like. A lovely path on the side by the water and a road on the other side.
Now there is just water, water everywhere!
I was planning on running on Kelly Drive today, but obviously THAT isn’t going to happen!
I wonder how long this flooding will keep me off Kelly Drive? Any idea on how long this water will stay up here? Thoughts?
Fiance and I wanted to get a better view of the river, so we walked on over to Falls Bridge.
The water was rushing by CRAZY fast and there was so much debris everywhere floating on down the river!
At least the ducks were enjoying their day!
Fiancé and I then walked on down to the beginning of the Wissahickon Trial and what were we greeted with? More water!
There is normally 3 arches where the water flows underneath this bridge, but you can’t really see it today!
We then headed down to the Philadelphia Canoe Club, which I didn’t know was so close to my apartment, to check out the water some more.
Apparently the flood has claimed part of this building today. Crazy how the canoe club is now completely surrounded by water.
So that’s a little bit of a snapshot of how I spent my morning. Exploring the flooding in my area was fun, and it was even more fun that fiancé got to stay home and play with me, but I want to send out some good vibes to all the people that were negatively affected by the flooding. I know lots of people were without power today and there is a lot of damage left behind from the flood, it even claimed a woman’s life earlier today.
So let’s all send some good vibes to those victimized by the flood have ourselves a happy and safe weekend!
What do you think of my flood pictures? Ever been through anything like this?

Wow! I didn't realize it was flooding so bad there. I am from IA, and it floods quite a bit there. I live near Chicago now.
It will probably be like that for a few days! How is traffic?
I DO love your boots! 🙂
That's insane! My mom lives near there and I didn't know it was bad. Ack!
The flooding in the city was crazy today. My boyfriend works in Reading, it took him almost two hours to get to work because of all the flooding detours on kelly drive!!!
Love the boots and blog…this is my first blog post ever..excited 🙂
Thanks for the pictures. I live in East Falls (at the top of the hill thank god). I had to wait at the exact corner of a picture of yours for the bus because my train line flooded out. I knew it was bad, I just didn't realize how bad it actually was until I saw the pictures!
That is absolutely nuts!!! I'll keep those who are affected by this in my thoughts.
Wow, great flood reporting! You should be a newscaster. Thank goodness you don't live on the ground floor anymore. Hope your lives get back to normal soon! Keep yourselves and Jackson safe.
It's been so bad! I am so thankful that we live at the top of Midvale Avenue!
Holy Cannoli! I live over by the Schuykill banks (on the 2nd floor, thank goodness) but I'm in Boston this weekend and had no idea it had gotten so bad. Thanks for the pictures – I can't get over that amount of water! I hope it dries out by, say, my Sunday long run? Hope everyone in Philly is staying safe and dry.
Garr!! I live in East Falls and work a mere 5 miles away (at the zoo) and it took me an hour and a half to get home tonight. What a nightmare!
Great pics but this will always be the day someone hit my car. 🙁 I also need to head to my Mom's tomorrow to check out the basement flooding. Ish!
Oh my word! I can't believe all the flooding. I've never been through something like that but I think I wouldn't like it very much.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.
Until a few months ago I lived right across the street from Franco's. I found this post when I was searching for photos of the flooding. Unbelievable!
I still can't get over the flooding in this area. My friends in Center City always warned me and they were right. Glad you are safe!
omg that is a ton of water! Stay safe! Are you just going to do treadmill runs instead?
Oh my goodness!!!! I didn't know you guys got that much rain!!! It rainned here for about 3 days and man did we need it but it was NOTHING like what you guys got! YIKes I hope the water goes down SOON!
WOW! I just moved to Northern Virginia a few weeks ago after living in the city for about 6 years. I miss the Philly news and wondered how it was this weekend wityh all of the rain.
A girlfriend in manayunk said it was bad but she didn't have any pictures! Thanks for sharing!
