Welcome (Back) to Chi-Town!

Hello Chicago! It has been a and early long day, but we got here safe and sound. Fiancé left Philly on a 7:30 am flight and got to Chicago at 8:30 am (with an hour time difference) – not too shabby!

I represented on the plane with my new Philadelphia Runner shirt.

Then after our quick flight – which got in 30 minutes early, woohoo, we were officially in Chi-Town.

Since we arrived during rush hour traffic, fiancé and I decided it would be best to take the L into the city. It was very easy!

Then we checked into our hotel, got into our room and realized we have this right outside our window! Pretty sweet view, right?

After unpacking a bit it was time to hit the town! Fiancé has never been to Chicago, so with this being his first trip, he wants to see lots! Since I was just in Chicago for the Healthy Living Summit, I have a general idea of where some stuff is, so I am tour guide of sorts for us today! I took us right over to the water!

We ended up on the other side of Lake Shore Drive, opposite of where I ran my 16 miles last time I was over here. It’s really nice, there are these great big paths for runners and bikers!

Navy Pier off in the distance – I’ll be seeing you later on in the trip!

John Hancock Building high in the sky – Again, I’ll be visiting you later in the trip too!

Then I hung out with the headless horseman for a bit…

DSC_1044

Oh wait, it’s just fiancé!

As we continued our afternoon stroll we can across some fun signage!

DSC_1052

Being here makes the race on Sunday way more real!

DSC_1054DSC_1060

We also came across some ice sculptures of the Stanley Cup, which I thought were random, but fiancé thought it was cool. Boys!

We then made our way to the Chicago River.

DSC_1073

I heart Chicago. It’s so pretty here!

Then we strolled along up to Millennium Park

Did a little fake falling in the fountain…looks real right?! I should be an actress!

And we eventually made our way up to Cloud Gate aka – The Bean!

DSC_1087

I love this thing! I could sit here and people watch and take fun pictures all day! I think it’s the coolest!

DSC_1089 DSC_1090 DSC_1091 DSC_1094DSC_1100DSC_1101 DSC_1104

The bean is so fun!

Bean Love.

After all the walking we were hungry, and fiancé would accept nothing less for lunch than some Chicago Pizza!

Last time I was here for pizza, I went to Geno’s East for some deep dish pizza. It was amazing, I loved every bite!

This time we started off our vacation with some stuffed pizza from Giordano’s, which also comes highly recommended.

We ordered our pie and while we waited we mapped out what we want to do for the rest of our trip! We are very touristy!

Also, stuffed pizza’s take 35 minutes to make. Deep dish pizza’s take 45-50 minutes! When you want pizza in Chicago, be prepared to wait for a little!

DSC_1149

After we waited our turn, our pizza finally arrived! Fiancé was excited to enjoy his first Chicago pizza!

DSC_1152

DSC_1150 DSC_1151 DSC_1153This pizza was a beast! It was very dense from all the cheese and the bread. I feel like the deep dish pizza I had before, wasn’t this intense!

DSC_1155

Posing with my slice…

DSC_1156

Followed by nearly dropping the pie on my lap!

DSC_1157DSC_1158 DSC_1160

Lots of cheese going on here.

DSC_1162 DSC_1165

See why it’s called stuffed? It is stuffed with the ingredients you order. We got ours with pepperoni and peppers.

Carb loading at its finest!

DSC_1179

Are you a deep dish or stuffed pizza fan?

I would have to say that the stuffed was fun to eat, and I am glad I tried it, but I loved the deep dish a lot more!

I love all things pizza bad would even love a stuffed pizza BUT I hate tomatoes. I eat sauces that are totally smooth, but unfortunately, every chicago-style stuffed pizza I have ever come across has tomato chunks and therefore I won't eat it. It's sad, really.

You're gonna be awesome on Sunday!
