Yesterday we made the voyage up from Virginia to New Jersey to spend the afternoon and evening with Fiancé’s family. It’s so nice that they live right over the bridge from Philadelphia in New Jersey. We were both happy we got to spend some time with both families Thanksgiving weekend! We were also happy that by coming back to Philadelphia on Saturday we avoided some major traffic and had the day off on Sunday to relax.
Well, almost relax! I have been planning since we decided to come back home on Saturday that Fiancé and I would go out Sunday morning and get our Christmas tree. Last year we went out on Friday after Thanksgiving to get a tree but no places were selling any yet, so we gave up and never ended up getting on. I knew that if we didn’t get one this weekend we probably wouldn’t have one again – and what’s Christmas without a tree?
We did a little research online and tried to find a place nearby that sold Christmas trees. These places are hard to find since there aren’t websites for them and they are kind of like nomads with the trees every year in a different spot but eventually we found a place.
They had a pretty good selection of trees in all different shapes and styles.
A few things went into our decision process for the perfect tree. We were looking at color, because some of the greens were different.
We were also looking at the different types of needles and what would be able to hold our ornaments.
We wanted one with a good tree top to hold our star!
The trees were pretty fairly priced, especially compared to Home Depot or Whole Foods from what I have seen!
Now all we had to do was to find the perfect tree!
Easier said than done – they were all so pretty!
We wanted something not too big, not too small, but just right.
I also wanted one that smelled pretty too. Christmas trees smell awesome.
On our list was also a pretty wreath for our front door. I love the look and smell of real Christmas wreaths and trees.
Tree Huggers
Eventually we found what we were looking for.
After looking at all the trees (multiple times) and making a quick phone call home to see what my parents get every year we made a decision.
Trust me. She’s a beaut!
We took her to the car and prepped her for the short ride home.
Our fingers were crossed that it would stay on top of the car and not go flying!
We ended up going with a Fraser Fur. It looked great, smelled good and was the perfect size for us.
Then we blasted the Christmas music (Thanks B101.1 FM!) and made our way to the hardware store – fiancé needed a saw in his life! As per my dad’s instruction, fiancé sawed off the bottom few inches of the tree to ensure it would be fresh when we put it in the tree stand.
Fiancé is such a handyman!
We then brought our awesome tree inside only to find that the tree stand we just purchased was too small! Major Fail! We made the trek back to Target (oh how I love thee!) to get a bigger one. After our little Target detour we have been spending the rest of the morning getting the tree set up and lights out.
I will be spending the rest of my evening setting up our tree! Decorating a Christmas tree is so much fun to me, it really gets me in the Christmas spirit! I will be back later with a finished picture – Stay Tuned!
Do you have any special tree decorating traditions?

We purchase an ornament every year that represents something that happened the last 12 months.
Looks like you have all the help you could possibly need {ie Jackson}!!! =) Congrats on the perfect tree. Our tradition? We always go cut our own, bring on the hacksaw!!
Looks soo fun! I've never had a real Christmas tree, but I think that I'm getting my first this week! It's going to be a little guy because my philly apt is small. But I've always had a fake one growing up so I'm excited for this new tradition of getting the tree!!
You guys did great choosing your tree! The tree shop is suppose to cut the bottom of the tree for you – but I guess it's a good idea for Fiance to have a saw too!
Enjoy the season – your last Christmas together as fiances!
