Greetings from Virginia! I came home to my parents house yesterday afternoon – my mom and I had a very big weekend planned full of lots of shopping and many things to cross off our wedding to-do list! Needless to say, today was a VERY busy day!
Maybe being on my feet for 9 hours straight running around isn’t the best way to prep for a 10 mile run early tomorrow morning, but you got to do what you got to do!
Today I started my morning off with a quick trip to DC. I had to pick up my packet for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler at the National Building Museum and I figured the earlier the better with traffic in the city. I got there at 10:00 and there was a line already around the block!
Luckily everything was pretty organized and the line moved very fast.
I had never been in the National Building Museum before this morning and let me just say that it was gorgeous!
What a lovely place to have a race expo, right?
Like I said the line moved pretty fast so I was in and out of there in no time.
I was excited to find out that I am in the Red start group which is pretty close to the start line! I think I am the first or second group to go and a good wave corral start is always an awesome way to start any race!
I did my usual lap around the expo but it was pretty much the usual suspects so I didn’t stick around too long, my mom and I had bigger plans for the day –> Side Note: The Chicago Marathon Expo is my all time favorite so far!
After picking up my bib we headed over to Georgetown in search for a few things for the wedding. I wanted to hit up Georgetown Cupcake (also known as DC Cupcakes on TLC), but the line was out of control.
Is it normal to want to wait in line for 2 hours for a cupcake? Obviously this is #1 priority for my next trip to DC – I need to try a cupcake here ASAP!
After trekking around Georgetown for a bit we headed up towards Reston Town Center in search of lunch. My mom read my previous post on SweetGreen and wanted to try it out for herself!
I was super excited for lunch as soon as I saw the April Salad on the menu!
Romaine (and I added Spinach), feta, cucumbers, (hold the tomatoes), spicy quinoa, mint, lemon squeeze, baked falafel with a cucumber basil yogurt dressing? Yes please!
It was one amazing salad.
Sweetgreen never dissapoints!
And you know what happened next? Just as I was thinking how awesome Georgetown Cupcakes would have been, we walked outside of sweetgreen and right next to us was Red Velvet Cupcakes!
Surely it was meant to be for me to enjoy a cupcake (or two) today!
My mom and I got 4 cupcakes to share/bring home with us – peanut butter, carrot cake, red velvet and birthday cake.
They are amazing!
The peanut butter one was insane and I have had bites of the other 3 flavors and they are pretty much out of control!
Dear Red Velvet Cupcakery, I’ll be back!
After lunch my mom and I spent the rest of the day hanging out, doing some things we needed to do for the wedding and just enjoying the day together. I was a much needed girl day!
I am off to bed because I have the race in the morning but I will leave you with some pictures of my awesome race shirt that they gave out today:
I am sort of in love with the fact that the course map is made to look like a cherry blossom branch. Pretty amazing stuff!
#2504 – If you see me tomorrow, holler at me!
