This weekend I ran 16 miles, as per my marathon training plan with my running buddy, Lauren!
We are already getting a little bored with our runs on Kelly Drive so we decided to spice things up a bit and do 16 miles in Fairmount Park.
The beginning of our run took us along the same route where I ran the Cherry Blossom 5K and got 2nd Place!
It was so nice to enjoy a brand new change of scenery. It made the run so much more enjoyable.
The time literally flew by and before I knew it we were already into double digits!
I had a pack of Shot Blocks in my back pocket for consumption along the way.
My favorite part along the route was when we cruised past the Japanese House and Gardens.
This route was pretty different from our normal Kelly Drive or Wissahickon runs.
It was much more entertaining, to me at least, to see all the beautiful scenery pass by.
We stopped along the way to check out a location where the Underground Railroad too place (Belmont Mansion)
And to enjoy this breathtaking view of the city.
We attempting a few jumping shots, but it didn’t work out so well.
This route also took us by some horse stables.
Crazy to think this was all still in Philadelphia, right?
The grand finale of our run was over Strawberry Mansion Bridge for a scenic view of the skyline.
Pretty nice view, eh?
Another 16 mile run to check off on my Marathon Training list – I feel like I got here so quickly!
I can’t wait to see how the rest of the training plan goes! Stay Tuned!

Wow – what a gorgeous run!!
Is that a CamelBak? I’m trying to decide if I should buy one. Lately with the humidity I’ve been dying from thirst. Do you think you’ll wear it during your marathons?
I love switching it up on my long runs too! It makes the time (and miles) go by way faster if I have new exciting things to look at!
The time would definitely pass quickly being surrounded by such pretty scenery- so green and lush! You’ve mentioned visiting family in the DC area before- have you ever run on your trip? There are tons of great trails 😀
Dear Leslie,
I am so proud of you for training so hard. It’s nice
to have someone else training with you. I know that
you both will do really well on the marathon!
Love,
Uncle John
