Oh hey. I ran a race this morning!
The Phillies 5k to be exact! I haven’t run a 5K race in the past 2 years {the last one I did was the Haddonfield Adrenaline 5K} and before that it wasn’t since I got 2nd place {and PR’d!} in the Cherry Blossom 5k in 2010! Needless to say, its been quite a while since I ran a 5k, but I have no idea why I don’t run them all the time – I love the distance!
So I didn’t mention I was running this race on the blog because I wasn’t 100% sure I was actually going to run it! My BFF Michele had her twins this week and I wasn’t sure when I would be going down to visit and my OTHER BFF Michelle {yes, I have two best friends named Michel{l}e but they spell their names different!} was planning on coming to visit this weekend, so I wasn’t sure what was going on.
But everything worked out and I was able to join 5,000 other runners this morning down at Citizens Bank Park for this sold out 5k! I’ve heard such good things about this fun race, I was pumped to join in on the fun.
My friend Spicer joined me this morning – it was his first race, his first 5K which immediately equals his first PR! Woohoo! I love it when that happens and I was pumped to be there to run it with him.
The Philly Phanatic {my favorite mascot} was all dressed dyed red for the occasion. I love it when he shakes his belly.
The course was better than I expected – we ran around all the stadiums in the area. There weren’t many spectators or music or entertainment but the miles passed by pretty quickly.
And what’s not to love about high-fives by the Phanatic?!
I entertained Spicer by taking pictures & he entertained me by photobombing them.
Pretty much a sea of everyone wearing red, white & blue the entire race.
I love a good coordination of colors.
Spicer & I pushed each other the last mile. I was in front, and then he passed me and it went along like that until the finish line was in sight- it was pretty much our own little race to the end.
It was a pretty solid race, if I do say so myself. Here are my stats:
Mile 1 – 8:24:03
Mile 2 – 8:29:82 { i had to tie my shoe, dangit!}
Mile 3 – 7:52:21 {bringing it home!}
Mile 0.14 – 00:57:15
5K Results: 25:43
8:17/mile pace
I was pretty pumped about that time, it felt really good to go out there and RUN! At the end of the race we were given Federal pretzels, which were amazing, and the chance to walk out on the Citizens Bank Park Field. Obviously, we were in.
It was super cool to be on the field level.
Finishers.
And we clearly couldn’t leave without a few shots by the big, blow up Phanatic.
Obviously, a jumping shot for me!
And a little race bling {to add to my collection!}
I hope your weekend is off to a fantastic start!

Congrats to you and Spicer! Well done finishers – looks like a fun time!
Yay for the run! I need to really look into a 5K. It would help keep me motivated!
Way to get out there! It was a cold and windy day… but a fun race. I ran with my 13 year old daughter, and we had a blast. I really love the distance too, it can be a challenge for runners of all levels.
