Your regularly scheduled post is interrupted today due to the fact that I have been selected as a juror to sit in a criminal trial.
Yesterday, I was Tweeting & Instagram-ing up a storm during my down-time in court, waiting to see if I would be chosen for trial and whatdayaknow – they picked me!
I had only been selected for jury duty once before yesterday – I called the night before and the recording told me I didn’t need to come in, so it was not very exciting. That was about 6 months ago & recently I received another summons – I thought after you were picked once you weren’t picked again for a few years, but I guess that’s not the case.
I find it all very interesting to be honest with you, I’m sort of excited to see how everything plays out in the courtroom.

Have you ever been picked for jury duty?
What was your experience like?

You’re right… very Law and Order!!
I got selected a few years ago. It was for a rape trial and was pretty awful. There were a lot of detail I wished I had never heard
I always get called off the night before but I have been summoned 3 times since moving to Philly. As a criminal justice major and law & order addict I desperately want to be picked but I know they probably wouldn’t pick me because of my criminal justice degree. One of my friends in NY ended up on a 6 week criminal case last year and the tidbits she could tell were very interesting. Good luck!
Wow, I’ve never been chosen for Jury Duty before, but it always sounded interesting to me!
I faithfully am called upon. As a matter of fact my summons is for the end of this month. I am from Philly too!
You can be called yearly & unless you serve on a trial for 3 or more days, you receive a break for 3 years.
The last time I was called was the summer of 2010 & I was chosen to sit on a criminal case that lasted 3 days. Like clockwork, my summons to appear arrived last Sat.
I am one of those rare people that actually enjoy jury duty. Taking the bus into the city, meeting “friends”, going to lunch at the Reading Terminal Market, & most importantly a day off work!
I have never been summoned in my 62 years. I think it would be interesting to be called upon, maybe some day! Enjoy your civic duty.
