After a few days in Valdivia we headed further South to spend a few days in the foothills of the Andes. We rented two cars for our group of 8 {and our massive amount of luggage} and made our way towards our home for the next few days, which would be in the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve.
It’s a pretty beautiful spot as it is located in the heart of the Patagonian rainforest and borders Argentina. We stopped along the way to take in the sights & take some jumping shots.
It was a little cloudy during our trip but still very scenic and beautiful.
After a few hours drive we made our way from Valdivia to Huilo Huilo.
The resort we stayed in was all sorts of awesome – everything was wood and rustic and really cool. The whole area was full of great things to explore, see and do.
Check out the inside of one of my favorite parts of the hotel – the top has a 360 view of the mountains which is really awesome too!
Another area of the resort, which is also part of the hotel: I couldn’t decide if I liked this picture in color or black & white – so you get to see both!
We got to Huilo Huilo in the afternoon so our group decided to take advantage of some of the awesome hiking trail options before dinner. We had time to do two different hikes which were both pretty amazing – Salto de la Leona & Sendero de los Espiritus.
It’s the end of the Chilean Winter here right now, so it’s been a bit cold, especially in the mountains but everything on our hike was really lush and beautiful – and the water was the most beautiful shade of teal! The top of the mountains are all snow-capped so as the weather warms, they are melting quite a bit which caused the waterfalls we saw to be really rough, which was cool to see!
The pictures don’t do the hike any justice – it was so hard to capture the true beauty of the area but hopefully this post gives you an idea!
After a good hike it was time to curl up in our cabin, enjoy a relaxing fire & a great view.
Stay tuned for more updates from our Chilean Vacation!
