This time last week I was in Chile on Fiestas Patrias at a rodeo in el campo {the country}. Fiestas Patrias is the Chilean Independence day, which is different from our 4th of July festivities as it is a week long celebration and most of the city, schools and work close down so everyone can enjoy the holiday.
The Fiestas Patrias celebration is an expression of Chilean culture – traditional activities include going to a rodeo, dancing la cueca, tons of food, drink and BBQ! The Chileans enjoy the Eat, Drink & Be Merry motto during the September 18th festivities – so obviously since we were visiting during the holiday we had to join in on the fun.
