Baby Bump: 39 Weeks Pregnant

39 weeks pregnant

Cross your fingers for me that this will my final Baby Bump update!

39Weeks Baby Bump

How far along are you? 9.5+ months pregnant aka 39 weeks. Everyone thinks pregnancy is only 9 months long, but if you make it to that 40 week mark {or beyond!} it’s really 10 months! At this point, I waver back and forth between being super uncomfortable/anxious/ready to meet this little guy and slightly sad to say goodbye to my baby bump. Definitely mixed emotions but overall I am ready to hold Baby Brinkley in my arms!

How I’m feeling: Feeling OH SO READY! This week has been a bit of a roller coaster, I’ve teetered between feeling great & having energy to clean & get all the final things ready for the baby and feeling all around yucky with nausea, headaches, cramps and being really tired. It seriously comes and goes in waves. Not to mention every time I feel ANYTHING it’s like – Is this it? Am I going into Labor? It’s very hard not to think about but it’s a pretty big life-changing event about to happen over here so it’s pretty much consuming all my thoughts at this point, which I think is pretty normal. Not to mention anytime I don’t respond to a text right away or anytime I answer the phone people are starting to worry if labor has begun!

week 39

Total weight gain: As of my appointment last week I have gained 25 pounds over the past 39 weeks. I feel fabulous about this number – I’ve kept active throughout my pregnancy, even these last few weeks, when it’s cold & really tough to find the energy I have really tried to keep myself moving.

How big is baby? This week baby is as big as a mini-watermelon! Wow! While baby is still hanging out in my belly, he is continuing to build a layer of fat to help control body temperature after birth. His digestive system is now capable of digesting liquid foods and baby is also now peeing at regular intervals {SO CRAZY!}

I had a really good appointment at my OB last week – I am still about 2 cm dilated, about 85% effaced and baby is at 0 station – which means he is locked & loaded in my pelvis, in position, ready to go. She said she would be really surprised if I made it to 40 weeks and she said everything looks really good. So now it literally is just a crazy waiting game!

Maternity clothes: I feel like I look like such a blob these days because it’s getting to the point where my maternity clothes don’t even really fit. Most of my shirts don’t cover the bottom of my belly so I’ve been living in loose sweats & a large amount of my husbands clothes. Comfy, but not all that cute. Luckily, since I am at the point where it could be Go Time at any minute, and I haven’t been doing too much or going out a lot – just relaxing and embracing these last few days before baby – which calls for a lot of comfy clothes!

Sleep: Been waking up so early this week again – around 4-5 am every day – for no reason. It’s a little frustrating because I really want to make sure I am getting all the sleep I can {while I can}, so I have been trying to go to sleep earlier at night to get in some extra Zzz’s. I’ve woken up a few times with back pain & a hard belly but aside from getting up to pee every few hours I have been sleeping pretty good.

Best moment this week: My parents came up this weekend to some some quality time with me {and the bump} before baby comes. Since they live in Virginia, I won’t see them again until I am in the hospital – so it was nice to see them again for a bit before Charles & I become parents & they become grandparents!

My mom also helped me {ok, I “assisted her”} in cleaning our entire house top to bottom. It was great this weekend to really get my nesting on to get the house all clean and beautiful before the baby makes his arrival. We also washed everything for the little guy so everything is officially ready to go. Now all we have to do is wait!

38 weeks

Movement: Lots of movement this week. Not sure if it’s because he is running out of room and stretching out when he can, but he has been moving around a ton – and since he is pretty big at this point, every movement feels so crazy. I can feel actual limbs in my belly – it’s fun to try to figure out what is where. I hope he has enjoyed his stay in Hotel Bump these past 9.5 months, but I also hope Baby Brinks is preparing to make his exit soon.

Food cravings: Baked Ziti {recipe coming soon!}, Chili, Tacos, Salads, Chocolate Milk, Jellybeans, Egg Sandwiches – I can’t wait to have an over easy egg after labor! Yum!

Food aversions: Chicken – wondering if this will ever sound good again?

wine run

What I Miss: Red Wine! Not sure why, but I’ve been dying for a glass this week. Charles & I made a little pilgrimage this weekend to pick up a post delivery treat for us {to toast our new baby} and we picked out a nice bottle of red wine, so that was really fun for me.

What I’m looking forward to: Going into Labor! I’m actually getting a little anxious about NOT going into labor because I would really like to experience my body doing what it’s supposed to do & starting the process on it’s own. I know we still have a week to go before my official due date, but I’d like to avoid being induced if possible – but I will be if I haven’t gone into labor by 41 weeks. Fingers crossed baby makes his exit before then, because I would like to have that experience, plus word on the street is that labor can take a lot longer if you are induced, which doesn’t sound so fun.

Milestone: I had another prenatal massage this week, which felt amazing and my MIL treated me to lunch and pedicures too. It was nice to get pampered a little bit before labor and seriously nothing beat getting your swollen feet rubbed at 9.5 months pregnant!

You look super cute. Did you ever find the stretching belly was sore, and uncomfrotable. I am only 22 weeks, but I sometimes feel that way.

    Best of luck!

Don’t worry about possible induction – while I’m sure your doc is right and you (fingers crossed!) won’t make it to week 40, I was also really hoping to start things up naturally, but wound up having to be induced at 7 days past due… They did it as naturally as possible and my labor was probably faster than it would have been since they helped speed up all the pre-active labor stuff… And I still went natural, with a little pitocin, and it was a great experience 🙂 no matter what, you’re going to have a great birth and a beautiful baby boy in your arms any day! So excited for you guys 🙂 best of luck Leslie!
