Brooks’ Favorite Things: One Month Old

Thanks so much for the kind words on Brooks’ one month post! I love being able to share my little man with you. I am in the process of adding a page on the blog for all things Baby Brooks – so keep an eye out for that!

Since I am currently in all-things baby mode {I promise to post about something other that Brooks again soon}, for today’s Friday Favorites I wanted to share with you a few of our little guys favorite things from the past month – also known as “things that have made my life easier the past 4 weeks”- Check them out, let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions of things that worked for you, that your baby loved during the first few months, please share!

One Month Old

1- I am obsessed with these fleece booties. Seriously, he has worn them almost everyday for the past month – they are amazing because unlike socks, they don’t fall off, ever. And they have kept his feet toasty this cold winter! They come in every color imaginable, I enjoy the brown because it goes with everything – We got the 0-3 month size and they fit great. They also come in a cotton version {solids and adorable stripes!} for the warmer weather which we will totally be picking up for the spring/summer.

2- At first I was against pacifiers {due to nipple confusion}, but after the first week and some reassurance from the doctor I am happy with our decision to give Brooks a soother. He enjoys being able to calm himself and I enjoy him not using my nipple as a pacifier. The Elephant Wubbanub is so adorable and I know the older Brooks gets, the more he will love the little stuffed animal attached to the paci – we also love the regular Soother pacifiers {that they give out in hospitals}

3- A baby carrier was a total must for me and I am so happy to say that I found one that I really love {and that Brooks loves too!} The Pikkolo carrier is amazing because it doesn’t require an infant insert, the straps are very comfortable AND it’s easy to put on by myself. You can also wear it in 4 different positions and it holds up to 40 pounds – plus, even though I went with basic black, it comes in some pretty fun color options too!

4- Brooks loves to be swaddled – especially in these Bamboo blankets! I know these swaddles are all the rage, specifically the Muslin ones and I’m not sure why because the Bamboo version is SO MUCH softer. Can’t say enough good things about them! We actually have both and they are great but the Bamboo is far superior in my opinion!

5- This bouncer {complete with the attachable wooden toy} is such an amazing piece of baby gear. We only started putting Brooks in it the past 2 weeks but he loves the soft bounce and has started reaching a little for the wooden toys – so cute to watch! I also love how adjustable it is – it folds up flat for easy storage/travel. It’s a little pricey, but I was able to score this bad boy off craigslist for a quarter of the price – the fabric seat is easily washable too, which is another score.

6- Triple Paste is the most amazing stuff ever. Brooks had a killer diaper rash and we were told from another mom friend to pick this stuff up and within a day it was cleared up. A little pricey, but totally worth it because it seriously works.

7- To say I love my stroller is an understatement – I’m obsessed with it. I went back and forth over and over again trying to decide on a stroller and I am so happy we went with this one. It rides really well, has great storage and is easy to maneuver. Brooks loves it too – he’s able to be in it now with the infant snugseat insert. It’s been really cold the past few weeks but we’ve been out and about whenever possible – I can’t wait for the weather to warm up a bit so we can have more outdoor adventures!

8- I have been trying out cloth diapers a little bit over the past month and I love them, especially this brand. They are so soft on the inside and fit Brooks really well. He seems to really enjoy them and as an added bonus I think they help prevent diaper rash/irritation. The extra laundry that comes with cloth diapers is sort of a bummer but we go through so many regular diapers during any given day I’m sure there’s a price break in there somewhere. Once little man gets a little bigger I want to get the next size {we are currently in the newborn cloth diapers} and wear them more and more when we are home during the day. I love all the adorable colors cloth diapers come in too – so cute!

9- Having an extra spot to put baby down is key – we borrowed this swing from a friend and Brooks LOVES his time in it. The swing rocks him to sleep and he is obsessed with looking up at the mobile go around and around. Such an awesome baby item to have {even better to borrow!} in those first few weeks!

We still use triple paste at 2 yrs old when our son has irritation. It is the best! On a side note, you can get that size jar at BJs for $12.99 – i was spending twice that (easily!) before.

At one month, the Mamaroo was our favorite! (And I just added the booties and the bouncer to my wish list for #2, so thanks for the post!)

I am very interested in trying cloth diapers as well! Any tips on how to start/integrate? I assume I will start with disposables then move to cloth (hopefully)!

Hey Ashley – I have been using them on days where we just hang out at home and they are great. I will be doing another post specifically on cloth diapers so stay tuned!

Your sentence about Muslin vs. Bamboo blankets is very poorly constructed.

Thanks for the heads up Beth – I fixed it!

After being with Brooks for the past two weeks, I can honestly say that all these product/equipment items are truly enjoyed by my grandson! Great baby choices!

I have no kids, but when my close friends have had babies I always sew them a car seat/baby carrier cover (gives the baby privacy and protection when they’re out shopping or whatever) and a nursing cover. I have a couple of friends expecting this summer so I’m shopping for fabric to use for theirs already!
