The wonderful thing about nursing is that it allows me quiet time with my baby, to {sometimes relax} and even on the rare occasion – Read! When I was offered the chance to read, review {and giveaway!} The Runner’s Bucket List: 200 Races to Run Before You Die by Denise Malan, I jumped at the chance!
I love a good race. And I really love this amazing list of great races in this book!
The Runner’s Bucket List is written by avid runner and journalist Denise Malan and is the perfect book for runners at all levels who are searching for the world’s greatest—and most unique—running adventures, the races that all enthusiasts should seriously consider participating in before they hang up their shoes.
Included among the 200 one-of-a-kind races:
- The Midnight Sun Run in Fairbanks, Alaska, celebrating the summer solstice and 24-hour sunshine with a race in the daylight during the middle of the night
- The Children’s TLC Groundhog Run in Kansas City, an indoor 5K/10K in the SubTropolis – the world’s largest underground business complex
- The Fat Ass 5K, which includes stops for beer, ice cream, doughnuts and corn dogs throughout this Springfield,Illinois trek
- The Berserkr Games in Ricardo, Texas, which feature a helicopter-drop start, 44 obstacles per loop, and muddy and sandy terrain
Have you ever thought about running a 5K naked or getting the all-time biggest marathon finisher’s medal? How about running five miles while eating a dozen donuts or chugging down a few beers? Or maybe you’d prefer running a half marathon in paradise or a 5K dressed as a gorilla? Whatever your dreams, runner and traveler Denise Malan has written the perfect book for everybody who is searching for America’s greatest—and craziest—running adventures: the races that all enthusiasts should seriously consider running before they die. She gives the inside scoop on 200 truly unique races around the United States, covering distances from one mile to ultramarathon.
I’ve share with you before on the blog My Marathon {Wish} List – and even though I’m not marathon training at this time, there are still some great runs out there I would love to do – and after reading this book, I’m adding a few more to my list!

I want to win this for my husband. He’s always trying to seek out interesting 10K races.
The coolest race I’ve ever done was the Savage Race it was a 7 mile mud run and obstacle race. It was super intense and I think I’ve satisfied my need for mud runs.
How fun does that Fat Ass 5K sound? Sounds like a really cool book to read and of course, win!
I’d love this book! I am planning on doing Big Sur Marathon next spring and love traveling for races.
This sounds like a great read!
My husband would love this!
I love running and doing fun races–the coolest race I’ve run is probably either the Smuttynose 1/2 marathon or the Color Run
I’d love to win! That Fat Ass 5k looks hilarious…and perfect since I’m in IL! The most interesting race I’ve done was a 10 nautical mile (11.5 mile) race from a military fort base to the Naval Academy, where civilians typically aren’t allowed access. Super fun and there is a killer hill at the end with navy guys yelling at you to get up the hill all boot-camp style 🙂

I’d love to read that book! One of my favorite races was a 5k at the sly fox brewery!
I’ve run some pretty cool races: Disney Half, Mayor’s Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, & Nike in San Fran. I’d love the book to see what other cool ones I can tackle. I am think something tropical…
Would love to read this book now that I am back to running after having a baby January 19.
I want to win because I have the life long goal of running a half in every state. The coolest would probably have to be the Maui Half Marathon- I ran it for my 30 the birthday when I went to Maui all by myself after ending a long term relationship.
