Surviving Motherhood in the Winter

“I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Brancott Estate Flight Song. I received product samples and a promotional item to thank me for my participation.”

This motherhood gig is a full time job. If you didn’t know it or think it or are currently experiencing it, I’m here to remind you just that. It’s a 24/7, constantly on call, little baby loving kind of gig. It’s awesome and it’s exhausting – but I wouldn’t have it any other way. For me, the winter & colder weather is always the hardest. Being pregnant & having a newborn last winter was rough – this year, Brooks is on the move and wants to be out and about, which his hard when the temps are so low!

I made a New Year’s Resolution to put down technology & be more present for my little man & I will continue to make that a priority! Here are some of my favorite tips for surviving motherhood during the winter. If you have any other tips & tricks, I’d love to hear what you to do survive!

1- Get creative – The DIY Ball pit is a favorite of Brooks to play in and destroy. Pinterest has been a fun resource to find other fun games & ideas as he gets older.

2- Memberships! – For Christmas & Brooks’ birthday all we ever ask for is memberships to places – we get tons of toys from neighbors & friends and don’t have the most space since we live in the city, so I try to not have a toy overload as much as possible. We have memberships to the Zoo, the Aquarium, the Please Touch Museum, Franklin Institute, Nest and will likely join Smith Playground this Spring/Summer. Just getting out of the house is always a good thing & Brooks enjoys the change of scenery too. The places that are inside – pretty much everything but the Zoo – are key in the winter months to changing things up while staying out of the cold!

3- Baby {and Mommy!} Play Dates – Having mom friends who are suffering the same winter doldrums is essential because there is power and numbers. The kids entertain themselves and the moms get to chat with adults. Winning on all fronts if you ask me! We try to schedule these at least once a week – gives us something to look forward to and changes things up for us as well.  buds

4- Pray for warmer weather, soon! – Is it April yet?

Side Note: A winter vacation always helps with this trick too! Ha!

5- All the Wine- It’s weird but true, being a mom has made me look forward to and enjoy my nightly glass of wine even more. Having a little one toddling around is exhausting {duh!} so once he goes to bed {and I say a little prayer that he sleeps through the night} I enjoy pouring a glass of wine, hitting up my DVR & relax. It’s my own little personal happy little hour each day – before I go to bed by 9pm {wild & crazy #momlife }

I go back and forth between being in the mood for red or white wine – usually I reach for red in the cooler months & white in the warmer months, but I’m currently loving the Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc from the Flight Song collection because it’s light & refreshing, but it’s also 20% less in calories than your typical white wine – I love everything about that! I got to try out this new wine with some of my favorite neighborhood mom friends – it was nice to enjoy a fresh glass of wine while the kids rolled around. It was also nice to spend some time together after the craziness of the holidays – the crispness of the white wine is really the perfect taste for any occasion or season!

A little bit about Brancott Estate Wines: Brancott Estate was the first to plant and create the world’s first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc wine—a style that has since changed the course of our country’s wine industry. Brancott Estate Flight Song wine has 20% less calories then similar selections of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio, but with all the quality and taste, it’s the perfect secret to keeping a New Year’s Resolution and have more fun doing it.

Now it’s your turn to share

How are you surviving motherhood this winter?

    I’m 39 weeks pregnant now and I live in Erie, PA where lake effect snow is plenty! My last day of work was on Friday, and I plan on staying home with baby for at least the first year or so. Today is my first day home and this post couldn’t have come at a better time. I am already starting to feel cabin fever. I think it’s mind over matter though. I am going to try to keep myself busy this week, in between naps of course! 🙂
