18 Months with Brooks

For a look back at previous Brooks updates, check out the baby page – which I recently changed the name to Brooks, since he’s not the only baby in these parts anymore!

I know, I know! I say this every.time. BUT! This is a big month! Little man is a whole year and a half old! I seriously can’t believe it! He is growing so much + so fast and every days his personality comes out a little more. He’s the sweetest little guy {who has his challenging moments!} but I love this age – it’s so fun to just watch him explore! I am a little sad because I feel like being 1.5 years old is officially “big boy” status, even though I want him to stay my little baby forever! Hopefully time will slow down a bit <3

Growth – We just had Brooks’ 18 month appointment yesterday! He is 26 lbs. 33 inches and in the 85th percentile for height and weight! Little man sure is growing! I can totally tell because he no longer fits in a large majority of his summer wardrobe. I’ve been going through clothes and organizing everything for baby #2 and I keep adding Brooks’ clothes to his brothers pile! We need to go shopping for Brooks because he’s growing out of everything he’s got!

Nursing  – We stopped nursing at 13 months! For more of an update & my recap check out my On Stopping Nursing post!

Baby Led Weaning – Our BLW update is pretty much the same as it always is. I’m taking a more laid back approach to food with Brooks. Where as before I would stress if he didn’t each much throughout the day or especially at night, as per the doctors suggestion, I’m going to continue to offer him what we are eating at meals, and that’s that. With another one on the way I can’t stress about B not getting his fruits and veggies or enough to eat. He will eat when he’s hungry and when he’s hungry he will let me know.

I did find these awesome reusable pouches that I’m obsessed with. Brooks and I share smoothies a lot and these are great for giving him his own serving and he can actually get the smoothie out on his own, which is awesome! Love them!

Teething – This is actually the first month since infancy that Brooks has been a little funky from teeth coming in. We’ve had a pretty smooth go of it and this week he started to get a little cranky and sore in the mouth – he has a big one coming in the back. Poor little guy. Not sure how many teeth he has at this point – I think I counted 11 the other day, but you can never see inside his mouth for long! Chomp chomp!

Sleeping – I hate talking about this because I really really don’t want to jinx it, but we are still doing really good in the sleep department. 7am – 7pm give or take a few and it’s been amazing. I just am crossing my fingers and toes and everything I’ve got he keeps this up until his brother arrives. Then none of us will be sleeping so it will be chaos no matter what! I just want to get to that point!

Naps – Again, naps have been going really well for the past few weeks. He still takes 2 a day – goes down around 9:30 for the first one, which lasts from 1-2 hours and then has been taking a late afternoon nap from 3:30 – 5 or somewhere around there. That late nap is amazing for me because it’s the perfect time for me to just put my feet up, have a snack and sit for a bit. And it also makes the afternoon so much easier on me – again this nap is somewhat flexible and if we are out and he only gets 30 minutes in the carseat, then we stick to 7pm bedtime. When he naps until 5 or so, I push the bedtime back 30 minutes and it’s all good. Crossing my fingers and toes again that he keeps this up until brother arrives!

Jackson & Brooks – I can’t wait for these two to bond once #2 arrives. Brooks still finds Jackson or “Jaxy” intriguing and awesome and Jackson still wonders why Brooks is here and if he is staying. Ha. Brooks loves to “help” hold Jacksons leash during walks and can’t wait to say good morning to him everyday. It’s the sweetest.

Sign Language – Not into sign language anymore because Brooks is talking like a champ!

Words – Brooks is talking like a champ. Everything you ask him to say, he tries his best and for the most part is pretty good at it. Some words are harder than others, but it’s so sweet to watch him learn and try. He can also easily tell you what these animals say: Duck {quack quack}, Cow {moooo}, Horse {neigh}, Cat {meow}, Bird {chirp chirp}, Dog {woof woof} – I honestly run out of animals and their noises to quiz him with! It’s so fun to see how fast he learns and retains the information!

Loves – Little man loves everything and finds everything amazing. He loves reading, puzzles, being outside, the pool, the beach, going down the slide, trains and the wind {to which he always throws his arms up and says WOAH!} He also enjoys the little time we have every morning where we watch Daniel Tiger {love him!} or Sesame Street. I have a new love for all the PBS shows!

Piper is 6 months old and only 6 pounds lighter than Brooks… eek! Haha. She’s been in the 95th+ percentile ever since she’s been born. Her head, height and weight! She’s just a big girl! Somebody called her tiny yesterday and I laughed out loud.

Your Brooks is such an amazing little boy! I love that we’re exactly one year behind you so we can see all the great things yet to come! 🙂
