Baby #2’s Spirit Animal Search

I’m currently in the process of doing a little redecorating for baby #2’s nursery. Brooks is in the middle of being moved into his new big boy room {more on that later} and when he moves out I want to do a few updates to make the room special for #2’s arrival.

With Brooks we did a grey + white chevron color scheme with elephants as his “spirit animal” – which is what I like to call his mascot.

You can check out his nursery post here!

Putting together Brooks’ nursery was so fun and special, and I had lots of time to devote to it! It was also so easy for me to pick out colors – grey is my favorite color so we went with that, along with whites and pops of blue. It was also easy for me to decide on his “spirit animal” – the elephant! I was immediately drawn to them, found tons of cute decorating options with elephants and it seemed to me elephants were pretty “in” when Brooks was born. I think they are still pretty popular now from what I can tell.

Also, they are my favorite color grey & went with my color scheme so that helped too.

I think my two favorite elephant pieces would have to be his blue stuffed cordy roy elephant {which I think is the cutest thing ever} and his elephant wubanub {which Brooks is obsessed with and loves beyond belief.

So because those pieces were/are to prevalent to Brooks, part of me wants to recreate that for his brother so they both have special little animals friends that “match.”

Charles think’s the whole spirit animal thing is crazy and I’m spending way too much time obsessing over it, but I want the new baby’s room to look nice and I’d love for the two brothers things to sort of coincide. Make sense to anyone else but me or am I just being a crazy pregnant lady?

Either way, the new baby is coming soon and I want to make the nursery his own little space. So today I wanted to share with you a few “spirit animal” options I’ve come up with and for the life of me I can’t commit to one. I have a rough time making a decision these days, which I blame pregnancy for again. So maybe you can help.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

lion

Lions.

I think lions are cute. They are similar sizing to elephants in the wild, which I don’t know if that’s really a reason but I’m throwing it out there. I like the muted yellow color of the ones I’ve found, I think that will look nice in the grey room with some yellow tones. They are similar to elephants but different enough.

I’m having a hard time finding things that aren’t lion king related, which I’m NOT interested in. But what I have found is pretty cute. I also enjoy the fact that lions + elephants can sort of go together.

I am also enjoying a few dog options.

Dogs are cute, sweet, easy to come by. Not sure if they are really grabbing my attention at the moment, but they are an option.

Another options I’m kind of sort of thinking about are owls. I think they are surprisingly cute, but in an ugly way {if that makes sense – especially #2 below!} I think they are sweet but potentially a little girly?

I think the thing I like most about them is the print I found {see below!} I sort of love it for right above the crib, but I’m not sure its the right animal.

I also enjoy tigers, bears and dinosaurs as other options too.

Yes, I know that I’m slightly crazy for obsessing this much over an infants animal, but I’d love any thoughts you have! Right now I think I’m leaning towards lions or dinosaurs because of the similar sizing, but I honestly can’t make a decision!

I love the lion theme. A close second is the owl…both are adorable!

My son’s nursery was pretty random. We did dark brown furniture, with pastel chevron sheets and pastel blue/green blankies. The artwork is “eclectic” hehe… a ninja, trex, whale and boat. Not sure what I’m going to do for #2, yikes!

I’m partial to dinosaurs (or sharks). I’ve actually been buying a little bit of both for our second who is arriving in October (we went with gray and white elephant theme for our first (a girl)) but are keeping the bumper, etc since I don’t foresee a third!

I like the lion option! I have a friend who did monkey’s for baby #1 and Owls for baby #2. The owls are cute but I think they are bit more feminine, especially the cute pink owl options you see at the store. Regardless of what you decide on though, I think I’m sure your little one will love it! 🙂

This whole post made me laugh. It’s so nice that you want to make his space special. I felt similarly with my second boy – it’s really hard because with the first you have tons of time to devote to the nursery and it’s usually perfect well before baby arrives. Because we lived in a different house and moved right before baby 2 was born, each child got his own new room. Baby 2s nursery is totally different than big brother’s was and I went with a focus on different colors versus animals.

For what it’s with, I love the lion idea. 🙂 Maube ask Brooks to choose for you.

I vote lions as they have similar characteristics between them, powerful, strong, respected in the animal kingdom, both are in the jungle, etc. The owl is also adorable, but doesn’t exude the same respect. Hope this helps!
