I have to admit – I’m not the biggest fan of screen time for the littles. Before Graham was born it was very minimal that Brooks would watch TV {he was also very young at the time} BUT with two littles {two and under} TV is necessary in our house at this point. In the morning, putting on a quick show while I get everything together is the only reason everyone gets breakfast. When I am trying to feed Graham, nurse him, change him, get him down for his nap – the only thing that will get Brooks to sit down {and know he won’t destroy everything around him} is watching a show.
And the only thing we really let him watch is PBSKids.
I think the reason TV is the thing that will get him to sit still is because we try to monitor how much he gets to watch – and it’s more of a treat than anything else. I used to have the TV on all day long when B was little, but now, not so much. And now whenever the TV is on – it’s always on PBSKids – my new favorite channel.
We are huge fans of all the shows – Daniel Tiger is a celebrity in these parts. We love Bob the Builder, Dinosaur Train, Curious George, Super Why and our current obsession -> Emmy Nominated Nature Cat.
Nature Cat tells the story of Fred, a house cat who dreams of exploring the great outdoors. In each episode, once his family leaves for the day, Fred transforms into Nature Cat, “backyard explorer extraordinaire”. Nature Cat can’t wait to get outside for a day of backyard nature excursions and adventures, but there’s one problem: He’s still a house cat with no instincts for nature itself. With the help of his animal friends, Nature Cat embarks on action-packed adventures that include exciting missions full of natureinvestigation, “aha” discovery moments and humor, all while inspiring children to go outside and “play the show.” Nature Cat’s adventures take him through his family’s big backyard, into the woods, and then into the “four corners” of his natural world: parks, ponds, caves, gardens, marshes, ravines, swamps, canyons, nature preserves and mountains.
I was excited when the folks from Nature Cat reached out to me for Brooks to check out their two brand new episodes that have never been seen before – The Great Grasshopper Race and Fall for Hal.
Brooks was also sent one of the first-eve Nature Cat plush toys {which hasn’t left his side since he got it} 2 pairs of collapsible binoculars + notebook for all of his adventures and exploring!
Both new episodes were really cute, but I think our favorite was The Great Grasshopper Race – Brooks loved the race aspect of the episode and I just loved that the grasshopper competing was named Dustin Hopman! Ha!
It was a treat to have a special showing after nap. I set up his chair, had snacks ready and he had his Nature Cat plush and binoculars ready. Pretty sure he watched the show through the binoculars! Ha!
And our new favorite game – looking out the window and drawing what we see. Brooks LOVES to draw, so this little notepad + pen was a great treat. And the perfect distraction for when I’m getting dinner ready!
Now I’ve got a little treat for you!

Hello, my name is Mauricio and I live in Brazil. Have a three year old daughter who loves PBSKIDS nature cat …
Unfortunately here in Brazil we did not find any toy or something from Nature Cat. So I would like to know how I can get something about this drawing to introduce my daughter!
Could you give me some contact so that I can make purchases of this character?
Thank you!
And sorry for my bad english…
My daughter loves Nature Cat! She loves Rover because he has Cat Whiskers but is also a dog.
Her favorite episodes are “Go Zambezia”, “Hearttime Day”, “Rover Begins”, and “The Great Way To Say”. I’m sorry for her that the original 1998 series got cancelled in 2006. But she is glad the series returned in 2015. Now all she wants are the toys and for Rover, Zambezia, and Dya to come back.
STUPID REBOOT! I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY REMADE FRED AND THE NATURE GANG!
