On Dogs + Babies

I think it’s fairly obvious that in the past 3 years, my life has changed pretty dramatically.

I just got that awesome Facebook Memory reminder the other day that we announced that we were pregnant with Brooks this time last summer. We hadn’t even bought the house we are currently living in at that time!

3 years, 2 kids, 1 house – and a partridge in a pear tree! Ha!

A ton has changed for us, but just as much has changed for Jackson too! He will be 10 years old this summer and I think his world was rocked even more when we first brought Brooks home from the hospital. Even more so when we brought Graham home – he probably thought we were nuts!

I have to say that having a dog and having little kids isn’t easy. Jackson always seems to need to go out when someone is napping and we live in the city so we don’t have a large backyard space for him to go out himself. Also, it’s no picnic when it’s pouring down rain or there’s a foot of snow on the ground and you have to figure out a way to get the babies, dog and yourself out the door.

But I do love the fact that my kids are growing up with a pet. I think it’s great for them to be around an animal, have them help out when they can and see the work that goes into it. I also weirdly think its good for allergies, even though Jackson is hypoallergenic and doesn’t shed. They both love going on walks with Jackson and Jackson LOVES mealtime especially with the two boys – he never misses it!

So today I wanted to give Jackson, the namesake of the blog a little love and the folks at AvoDerm Natural Pet Food wanted to give him a little treat too.

Did you know avocado is a major superfood? It is a common misconception that avocados are toxic for dogs, though numerous studies have concluded that it is actually only the seed and skin that contain persin that should be avoided. Despite the rumors, avocados are a natural superfood, full of nutrients, crude fiber, and contain vitamins A, C, and E, as well as B6. They are rich in folate, potassium, niacin, essential fatty acids crucial to good skin, and coat health, and they also help to promote overall health.

The avocado meal and oil used in the AvoDerm Natural pet products comes from the meat of the fruit and does not contain the leaves, bark, skin or pit of the fruit. The oil is extracted from ripened fruit in which the meat pulp has been separated from the skin and the pit. This leaves your pups coat soft and shiny! Jackson has been eating and loving this stuff.
