I heart Jay Blahnik

I participated in the Nike+Human race this past August, and when I signed up for it, I got a free download for the My First 10k training workout on iTunes. I downloaded it and used it to prepare for my first 10k race. This kind of training was perfect for me. Jay Blahnik comes in your headphones, and talks you through a 43 minute workout. It is amazing. He tells you what to do for warm-up, endurance running, even intervals. There is NO way I would be out there on the streets, sprinting for 1 minute on and 1 minute off if it wasn’t for this training workout.

Upon completion of the Nike Human Race, I was given a free download to the 10k Training Quickrun. Another Jay Blahnik workout, which is about 20 minutes in length. Again, he pushes you beyond your limits in these training sessions. Such a good workout routine. You can download any of them from iTunes for a few bucks. I use both of mine all the time, definitely worth it and a way to switch things up!

My Nike+Mini was getting a little anxious so I took her for a run. Today I did 7.21 miles which is a personal best for distance. I am training to do some half marathons in the near future. I borrowed my mom’s polar heart rate monitor and it said my max heart rate was 186, and my avg. was 159. Pretty good if you ask me. I NEED heart rate monitor. Not sure which type I want to go with. I liked the Polar, but I have heart good things about the garmin one too. Suggestions?

Motivated By My Mini

If you use the Nike+ at all, you know it pretty much rocks. At least that’s how I feel. Boyf first got me the Nike+Sportband for my birthday last summer, and I was obsessed with it. I used it all summer. It was amazing being able to look down at my wrist, see my time, pace, miles and calories. It totally pushed me to do more. I would look down, see I was almost at 4 miles, and tell myself to get to 5. It gave me a sense of control over my runs that I wasn’t getting before. Plus, being able to plug it into the computer was amazing. Being able to track my runs over time has been great and I have become a more devoted runner because of it.

This past fall I upgraded my photo ipod to the brand new touch, and with it came the newer Nike+ features. Now everything is tracked right on my ipod touch. I can view my run stats and listen to my music all in one device. Brilliant!

When I got the touch, I also inherited my Nike + Mini. If you are on my page right now, you will notice she is dancing around to the left of this post. She is HARDCORE. Currently she is pumped because I just did a 6 mile run. She is spouting out phrases like “My runometer just blew up” and “I feel like I am on top of the world.” She says stuff like that while jumping hurdles, air boxing, and doing splits in the air. She is currently full of energy. When I go a few days without running, or at least not tracking a run with my ipod, she gets PISSED. She sits there complaining to me that she is bored, and hasn’t run in a while. She gets quite upset when I don’t ‘take her for a run’ I put this feature up on top of my blog so its front and center. In a small way, its how I can be accountable for running. It is embarrassing if she is up there telling the whole blog world I haven’t ran in a while. She sits there playing video games and mocks me! I can’t have that! So I knew when I got home today I had to get my butt out there and give into my Mini’s running needs.

What can I say? She gets me out there running, and in the end, I am ok with that.
