This weekend fiancé and I had a big to do list on the agenda, but we didn’t really get a whole lot done. We had a bit of a lazy weekend, and sometimes those are exactly what the doctor ordered! We were able to cross one big item off our list – Clean out our pantry! CHECK!
So cleaning out the pantry was a big undertaking. It took a while to take everything out, organize it, and then put everything back in. Once we had everything out, Jackson wanted to make sure everything was spick and span!
So as you can see, our cabinets are pretty big and pretty deep. Lots of stuff gets pushed to the back and then we end up forgetting about it. We had to throw away a bunch of stuff which had expired, which was sad. I hate to waste food.
Lots of organizing going on here, with Jackson in charge!
So after we organized and cleaned yesterday we made a big ‘ol grocery list of items we needed. We also made a list of potential meals for the week.
Today was the first day I have done actual grocery shopping since I announced the Only the Essentials challenge in the beginning of December. Yup, you read that right. I haven’t done any grocery shopping since the first week of December. Except for purchasing milk/juice fiancé and I have been eating from what we already have in the kitchen. It has gone really well. We have gone through lots of stuff in the freezer, eaten lots from the pantry and have saved a bunch of money by avoiding the grocery store. It has changed the way I do my shopping for sure!
Luckily, going to the store today was a day full of deals!
My local ACME store had a ‘Buck A Bag’ deal on veggies.
I was very happy to find this deal today at the store.
I was able to buy 4 bags of spinach, carrots, onions and some other veggies for $1.00 each! Score! I always am weary of spinach prices these days. It’s so hard to find spinach at reasonable prices, and you know how much I love my spinach – especially in my Green Monsters! So a buck a bag today was AWESOME!
I got lots of necessities today and I am excited for the meals ahead. I haven’t had bananas, cheese or yogurts in a LOOOONG time!
I even saved $20.00 by using my Supercard! Woohoo! I never leave home without that bad boy!
Where is your favorite place to grocery shop? I haven’t found a store I love yet, that is close with great prices and lots of choices!
