Wish We Were Here: Melbourne, Australia

I know that I have mentioned my travels to Australia during my Junior year at college when I studied abroad there for 9 months a few times on the blog. It was one of the best times of my life!

I recently stumbled across some pictures from my travels during my time there and since the weather in Philadelphia currently sucks, I wanted to do a little daydreaming with you all.

I wish I knew then what I know now about taking pictures, photography and memories – I wasn’t as picture happy back then as I am now, but I still took a bunch of awesome pictures.

I traveled to Australia with a big group of other students all apart of the same study abroad program. We started off our trip Down Under down in Melbourne. We stayed there for a week or so embracing the culture and seeing the sights before we headed up to Sydney for school.

Melbourne is awesome.

The best part of our travels down there was the program we were traveling with set up all these incredible side trips for us to really see the sights and check out all the Melbourne had to offer.

Side Note: Check out Leslie (me! in the pink jacket) circa 2005! Ow Ow! 🙂

The absolute best part of the trip, and most memorable part for me, was my first kangaroo sighting.

We went to this amazing field that was just off the side of the road. Got out of the car and our guide took us up this hill where we were immediately within sight of KANGAROOS!

These picture are not zoomed in. We were quiet, kept a distance and the ‘roos just sort of checked us out.

They literally just hang out in the fields. To the wonderful world of OZ Kangaroos are sort of like deer to us. When I went to the zoo in Sydney they actually had deer’s in an exhibit! So weird, right?

Love the little ‘roos with babies in their pouch! This was really a magical moment for me.

The rest of my time in Melbourne was pretty amazing too. It was a great way to start off my study abroad travels – but the most memorable part for me was definitely my first Kangaroo sighting!

(and hanging out with this camel! 🙂

Ever been to Melbourne, Australia? Did you study abroad? It was one of the best experiences of my life. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to go to the other side of the world for 9 months by myself with a bunch of strangers who are now some of my closest friends!

Studying Abroad = Awesome!
