Growth – Is it me, or is the teddy bear shrinking?

Little man is GROWING! It’s easy to see when you look back at his weekly pictures. The bear & the chair are definitely shrinking. It’s also easy for me to feel when I hold him – he is totally getting heavier. After a while of holding or rocking Brooks I seriously feel it in my back and my arms. We don’t have another appointment at the doctors to get the whole height/weight update until 9 months, but he is definitely filling out. His little legs are all sorts of chubby and its all sorts of awesome.

Feeding – We had a slight hiccup in the nursing world this past month. While we were on vacation down the Eastern Shore, Brooks got a cold which messed up his sleeping schedule & his feeding schedule too. He was having lots of extra feedings through the night when he would wake up not feeing well – this seriously messed with my sore nipple.

I had my normal checkup at the OB this month & she was very impressed that I was still exclusively nursing as my nipple looked pretty sad. She prescribed me some ointment and I was told to only pump from my left side for a few days. I thought this would be way harder than it turned out to be, which was awesome. My supply didn’t change at all, I actually think it picked up a bit and I had more help with feedings – since it didn’t have to be only me doing it, now that there was a bottle involved. The only problem was that Brooks wouldn’t take a bottle from me!

While Charles was at work I had to go to a neighbors house one day to have her feed my baby since he wouldn’t eat from me – that was rough. But luckily we had the weekend on our side & Charles was home for the rest of the time to help with feedings. Since my little break on my left side, everything’s been back to normal. I’m still using the ointment as a preventative measure, but it’s nice to know my body will adapt to pumping if I have to give myself a break.

Baby Led Weaning – I recently shared on the blog this past week our Baby Led Weaning update one month in to the whole process. Things are going well in the BLW department overall. B is pretty adventurous with trying just about everything. He also makes a crazy face just about anytime something new is put in his mouth, but he almost always eats it, so I don’t think he thinks its bad, maybe just new? Everyday is different & somedays he’s really into it, other days he isn’t. We just try to offer him a bit of variety everyday!

Sleeping We JUST started getting back into a good place in terms of sleeping within the last week and a half or so. After our Eastern Shore trip his schedule was all sorts of messed up from traveling and being sick and then we got back home & settled in, he started getting his first tooth in right away {!!} So that caused a few sleepless nights as well.

He’s currently still going down at 7pm {that has never changed} and usually gets up around 4/5am for a feeding, then goes back to bed *usually* until around 7am or later. I’m hoping that sooner than later he will drop that early morning feed & sleep the full 12 hours I know he can. But something tells me we will be having more issues with teething in the next coming weeks…

Naps I’m not sure when it really happened, but Brooks dropped his 3rd nap of the day and now is *sort of* consistently taking 2 solids naps each day. The first nap is usually 2-3 hours after he wakes up and it lasts anywhere from 1-2 hours and then he usually naps again in the early afternoon another 1-2 hours, depending on how long he slept in the morning. As soon as he starts rubbing his eyes I know its time. I usually rock him for a bit and when he naps that’s when I try to get as much work done as I can.

Clothes Brooks is just about growing out of his 6 month clothes. The footie pajamas he has that are sized 6 month have another week or so left in them, as they are getting tight. Everything else for the most part still fits – we will need to go shopping for fall/winter clothes as the weather cools but he’s been getting lots of good use out of what he has.

Jackson & Brooks – Except for when Brooks is eating {and Jackson conveniently knows to hang out underneath his high chair} there hasn’t been much change in Jackson giving Brooks attention. Brooks on the other hand is now mobile and crawling {!!} so he makes it a point to try to get Jackson to play with him, but J isn’t into it and just prances away.

I’m still holding onto hope that they will be bests in no time. Brooks loves Jackson, we just need to get Jackson to love Brooks!

Loves Brooks loves a lot of things these days. This big blue ball I picked up at CVS the other day {shown below – best $1 I’ve spent!}, he also loves to swing at the playground, singing {with a partner} and he *still* is really into nibbling on his toes.

Loves {cont’d} – As I’ve mentioned earlier in this post, over this past month Brooks has become mobile and LOVES to crawl. He goes back and forth between doing the army crawl and getting up on all fours – he also is getting really good at sitting up on his own too! We’ve made lots of progress this past month!

Highlights – This past month we’ve made lots of progress enjoying the last official month of summer. Brooks went to his first Phillies game and even got his photo put up on Phanavision on the jumbotron.

This month we also purchased a zoo membership! A regular entry to the zoo is $20 per person {kids 2 and under free} and parking is $15 – so for Charles & I to bring Brooks to the zoo and park it would have been $55. A single membership is $75 which includes a guest pass for each visit {kids 2 and under are free!} plus parking is included too. Brooks and I have already been 4 times in the past few weeks with friends {we’ve already gotten our money’s worth} and we have a blast each time – he loves people watching and animal watching too – especially the monkeys! It’s a great excuse to get outside & walk around. I can’t wait to go in the cooler weather this Fall!

At what month did Brooks first start crawling? Is he walking now?

    • Reply Leslie January 15, 2015 at 9:43 am

He started crawling around 6/7 months – really moving around 8 & sitting on his own comfortably around 7.5 months. He’s not walking yet on his own, he can use the walker and does little moments of standing on his own, but he’s still crushing the furniture
