Pink or Blue?

For me, it’s never been a question of whether or not we would find out the gender of our babies {same goes for Charles}. We like to plan and get excited about the new little one on the way. Knowing the gender allows me to feel a bit more connected to the baby growing inside me. I think when he/she is born, it’s an exciting time all around and it’s a surprise as to what he/she will look like, sound like, how big & tall and all that fun stuff you get to find out after delivery. That’s all a surprise either way – but I really enjoy knowing boy or girl!

So today Charles & I are going to go in for our 20 week anatomy scan with the hopes {fingers crossed} we get a little sneak peek as to whether Brooks will have a little brother or sister.

<insert crazy excitement here!>

I’m excited either way because we can’t really go wrong. I think having the same sex sibling would be awesome for Brooks. And because they will be so close in age, a little brother would be a little mini-Brooks twin. I don’t know if the world is ready for that cuteness, but we would see! I would also totally dress them up in matching outfits so that would be pretty awesome in itself. BUT it would also be amazing to have a little girl in our lives. I’m pretty sure we would go bankrupt because I would buy all the dresses, all the headbands and all the pretty, sparkly, girly things – so that would be really awesome too. So either way it’s a win for us and we are just hoping to see a happy, healthy little one with all his/her fingers, toes and all that jazz.

Last time when we were finding out the gender for Brooks I did a little pink or blue post where I compiled all the old wives tales. I decided to do the same thing this time to see how the predictions came up and how they compared to what was accurate last time! Check it out and be sure to share your guess: Pink or Blue!

1.  Chinese Gender Predictor – Ancient Chinese gender predictor using your Chinese lunar age at conception and the Chinese lunar month of conception. {this was wrong for Brooks}

  • Result: Calendar says – > BOY!

2.  Fetal Heart Beat – Tale is that 140+ BPM is a girl while less than 140 is a boy.

  • Result: at 12 weeks it was 150, at 19 weeks it was 145 –> GIRL!

3.  Morning Sickness – If you’re tossing your cookies, it’s a girl!  If you’re not, a bouncing baby boy.

  • Result: I was WAY sicker this time around. With Brooks I only felt hungover, I never actually threw up. With baby #2 I was puking the entire first trimester -> GIRL!

4.  Sweet or Sour Cravings – If you’re craving sweets it’s a girl.  If you’re craving sour/salty it’s a boy.

  • Result: Depends on my mood. I like both sweets & salty! No preference.

5.  Body Clues – They say that little girls steal their mother’s beauty leading to acne etc.  Little boys cause dry hands and cold feet.

  • Result:  Dry hands for sure, not much else -> BOY!

6.  Even and Odd – Looking at the mother’s age at conception and the year, if both numbers are even or odd it’s a girl, if they’re opposite it’s a boy. {this was wrong for Brooks}

  • Result: 30 in 2015  – > BOY!

7.  How You Carry = If you’re carrying the baby high and round it’s a girl.  Low and pointy is a boy.

  • Result: To me it feels like I am carrying low, but I’ve been told it looks like I’m carrying high. Hard to say. Check out my baby bump photos and let me know what you think.

8. Ring Test – Hang your wedding ring on a string over your belly. If it swings in a circle, it’s a boy. Back and forth, it’s a girl. {this was wrong for Brooks}

  • Result: I tried this twice and it didn’t really do anything or move. Unclear.

9. Baking Soda – Pee in a cup and mix in 1 tablespoon of baking soda {yes I did this, don’d judge}. If the mixture fizzles, it’s a boy. If it doesn’t, you’ve got yourself a girl! {this was wrong for Brooks}

  • Result: Sort of fizzed, but only when I shook it? -> BOY!

I know the Old Wives Tales have a 50/50 chance of being right, just like everyone else out there but it’s still fun to play along and see. I’m not sure if all my answers are very helpful for guessing but I tried! Did any of the Old Wives Tales stand out for you in your pregnancy? Let me know!

I plan to share the gender of our baby on the blog next week, so stay tuned for that, but in the meantime, I’d love to hear your guess! Do you think Brooks will have a little brother or sister?
