Our Favorite Philly Memberships

As a stay-at-home mom, memberships to fun, educational, places we can easily explore are necessary. I am not one who is able to sit at home everyday. I need to be out and about with my little man, wearing him out and changing up our scenery so we both get to experience new things. Somedays, running around all these places with my pregnant belly is harder than others, but for the most part I love being able to come and go to all these fabulous Philadelphia places as we please.

We love these memberships as Christmas & birthday gift ideas for grandparents – they love it and so do we because they really are the gift that keep on giving! Some are more expensive than others, but totally worth it {like the Aquarium & Please Touch} some are even tax deductible, I believe {the zoo?} but they all have provided endless entertainment & learning experiences for Brooks!

Check out our favorites & let me know where you love to explore with your little one!

1. The Philadelphia Zoo

We are BIG fans of the zoo around here. We live really close and can walk if we want to {walking is more of a Fall thing, when the weather is a bit cooler} but it’s been so amazing to take advantage of living in the city and having a nice zoo nearby. The zoo membership pretty much pays for itself if more than two people come together & park for a day at the zoo. We usually go once a week or so and can take friends and family in with us for free – plus we park for free. Brooks loved strollin’ around the zoo before he was walking and now he loves exploring on his own. There are even lots of seasonal events, like Boo at the Zoo for Halloween, all of which are free for members.

2. Adventure Aquarium

I’ve always been an animal lover. And while the whole animals in captivity is a whole other thing that I could go on and on about, I do love to see the marine life up-close and personal, and so does Brooks! The aquarium is an awesome place to go on a rainy, snowy day or even a crazy hot day where you want to get out the sun! Brooks has loved going there ever since he was an itty bitty baby. He loved seeing the lights and watching the water – and now he loves it because he can really see the fish – all the animals are way easier to see than at the zoo! We love the aquarium and aside from it being a $5 toll ride across the bridge, it’s always an awesome way to spent the day!

3. Please Touch Museum

Brooks really JUST started getting into the Please Touch Museum. He got the membership from Santa and we went a few times over the winter, but he still wasn’t walking yet. Now that he is 100% mobile, he loves to roam around and explore on his own – and it’s so much fun for me to watch! The Please Touch Museum has tons of different themed rooms and floors for the little ones to play, learn and explore. They have done an awesome job with the space – it’s really fun to be in!

I think our favorite membership perk for the Please Touch Museum would have to be free carousel rides! Woo!

4. Franklin Institute

We got the Franklin Institute membership from a random Groupon and it’s been a pretty good deal. Again, we live really close so we can take advantage of popping over there for an hour or two to break up the day. We went here a TON when Brooks was first born because he loved napping in his stroller and I loved just moving around. Now he loves exploring the choo-choo trains, the airplanes and even sitting and enjoying the planetarium show!

5. Smith Playground

This is a new find for us but because Brooks is mobile now but its another amazing spot in the city! It’s a lot if you have a little one who is always on the go, like I do, he is constantly all over the place here & I’m chasing him all around, but it’s worth it to see how much fun he has! I only wish the outdoor spaces here were sectioned off a bit so I would have to do less chasing, but I’m sure Brooks likes it just the way it is!

Our favorite part of Smith would have to be the wooden slide!

6. Nest Philly

I’ve shared my love for Nest Philly many times on the blog. We have taken the Hatchlings Class, Baby Nest Music and Munchkins Class {which is like a toddler tumbling class!} – each one has been better than the last. Nest is an awesome place to take classes or just have a membership to so you can take advantage of the awesome indoor play space they have downstairs.

7. Music Monkey Jungle

Brooks has always loved music. We were told about the Music Monkey Jungle classes early on and it quickly became one of his favorite activities, especially as a little one. He loves listening to the different tunes, we even have a CD of MMJ in our car that we jam out too! We got a class card here and always enjoy our time in the Jungle!

8. Sister Cities

One of our favorite spots now that the weather is nice! Sister Cities is next to Logan Square. In the cooler months its a little  gymboree/building area for the kids to explore. Now that it’s warm out it’s a little wading pool for the little ones to splash around in and cool off – Brooks LOVES it! We spend lots of time here and the best part – it’s free!

9. Johnson’s Farm

We’ve been consistently hitting up Johnson’s Farm in NJ over the past year. In the Fall we went there to pick some apples & pumpkins and last week we picked strawberries + cherries. They have an awesome hayride for the little ones, a little petting zoo and a huge play area too. If you live close by it would make sense to get a membership there, we just do a drop in when we visit, but it’s a really great space! Not to mention the eats are amazing!

10. All Around This World

I shared with you a little recap of our All Around This World baby music class on the blog before, but it was such an awesome class – Brooks loved it! There are a few different locations for AATW, one of them being in Fairmount which makes it super convenient for us. Again, if you have a little one who is into music, definitely check this out!

The perks of living in a big city! I’m jealous!

Here in Tallahassee, we only have 1 membership, to the Museum which is more like a zoo. When I lived near Toronto, we had MyGym, but nothing like that here. boo!

This post made me wanna have a baby so I could go do all these fun things! I work in Fairmount so I’m super close to lots of these- I’ve still never been to the zoo which is insane!

Also a Philly person… Zoo membership is a must, also big fans of the Please Touch and Smith Playground. We had Longwood Gardens memberships for a while (perfect for little kids) and Tyler Arboretum. I don’t have a membership, but I like using a punch card at Lulu’s Casita in Ardmore (especially in the winter). There’s supposedly an amazing splash park somewhere in town too, although we haven’t found it yet…

Not in Philly a bit North, but the Crayola Factory is worth the trip! He would be free and you can get a discount ticket online. My one year old loves it there!

Morris Arboretum in Chestnut Hill just had a living social deal (maybe it still does). It has a great model railway my daughter loves, plus a cool treehouse and gorgeous grounds for wandering and picnicking!
