On Potty Training

Ok, so Brooks is 2 years and 7 months. He is also started preschool last week and while he doesn’t have to be potty trained for school, I would really like him to be soon. I’ve heard that boys are usually up for the whole potty training gig anytime between 2.5-3.5 years old. And I’ve also heard that girls are easier to train. But all of that varies by kid – so who knows!

With Brooks at this age, I know he gets it. He knows when he has to go, he obviously knows when he’s going and I have a pretty good read on him as well. Our struggle at the moment is getting him to stop what he is doing and recognize he has to go, tell someone and then get to the potty. Lots happening in a few short seconds!

“If you have to go potty, Stop + Go right away” – anyone else have that Daniel Tiger episode dancing around in their head at all times?!

So with Brooks we’ve been doing a few things – no repeat – to hopefully inspire him to make the change to a potty trained toddler. First, my dad brought back to life the potty seat my mom and uncle used when they were little! How sweet is this?! I love the wood look – I’m not really into the whole bright colors + characters everything. More muted is my jam, especially on a piece I have to look at on the daily. chair

We also replaced the toilet seat on the actual toilet to have a built in child’s seat. It’s really awesome and has a whisper close option, which I REALLY love. So much easier and no clean up mess as opposed to the child’s potty. To go along with that I picked up a nice little stool, since Brooks obviously can’t reach the seat on his own yet. I love this stool because he can easily move it from the toilet to the sink and it was under $5 and ‘wood’ – win!

Next up, which I don’t have a photo of but something I really love and picked up randomly on Prime Day is the GlowBowl – laugh if you want, but this thing is awesome. It is Motion-Activated\Light Sensitive, fits ANY Toilet in seconds – you can
rotate the color to have a little disco action in your toilet seat or set to Blue, Red, Green, Aqua, Purple, Yellow, or White. It lights up your toilet bowl when you walk in the room and Brooks is obsessed with it! It has been a game changer for us!

Another game changer has been our little treat system of M+M’s – 1 for #1 and 2 for #2 – easy, simple + direct – and lucky for us, Brooks LOVES M+M’s – who doesn’t?!

The final piece to our potty training journey puzzle would defiantly have to be the toilet paper selection- especially the Charmin Essentials Soft – I love how soft it feels and it’s perfect for a little toddler learning to use the bathroom himself. Not to mention 6 rolls are as much as 18! They last forever! Love!

You are definitely doing everything right to sway Brooks into becoming potty trained. The only thing I would suggest is swapping out diapers for the Boys Pull Ups, this might be the trick for him knowing how easy it is to go Potty, and one step closer to no diapers!
