La Calaca Feliz, Fairmount – Tasting Menu

Last weekend my neighbor and I snuck out for a early Sunday dinner without the kids. I was home solo for 4 days with the Littles and let me tell you it was a LOOOOOONG 4 days. Sunday was a beautiful day and I saw the light at the end of my solo parenting weekend! As soon as the hubs got home – I needed a minute out of the house without the kids.

And a margarita! Duh.

We sat down on the patio outside at La Calaca Feliz, which I have done many times in the past over our time here in Fairmount. It’s one of my favorite places to go to eat. They always have great food, tasty margaritas and an awesome happy hour special during the week.

Kelly and I got crazy and decided we wanted to take the chef’s tasting menu for a spin! $29 for 6 courses? Sign me UP!

I initially did a random Instagram Story on our meal, but since it was so delicious, I thought it was worth sharing on the blog too! Check it out:

First up we had the Hamachi Ceviche – pico de gallo, lime aioli, avocado, corn tortilla – I had never had this before and probably would have never ordered it in my life, but I’m so glad I got to try it out! It was delicious, light, refreshing – the perfect starter course!

Next up we had the Brussels Tlayuda, which is pretty much a Mexican pizza – manchego bechamel, poblano, queso mixto, jalapeno, requeson – I’ve had this dish a bunch of times before and it DOES NOT Disappoint. It’s always delicious with a little kick. Plus I’m a Brussels sprouts fan, so that makes me extra happy.

Next up we had the Baja Fish Tacos – my personal favorite – plantain crusted blue tilapia, cabbage, avocado, lemon vinaigrette. I am guilty of getting these every time I eat here because they are THAT amazing. I have FOMO about not getting them and wishing I had them, it’s a problem. Love these so much. Want one now.

Next up – another taco! The chicken tacos – chicken tinga, avocado, queso fresco, red cabbage. I’m so glad I got to try these because they were AMAZING. The sauce was perfect and the chicken was insane. Highly recommend!

And for our final entree, even though I was completely stuffed by this point, Grilled Shrimp with tequila grits and corn salsa. Delicious, but we had to take half of it home because we were so stuffed!

Seriously – what a meal for $29 – right?! We also got chips and salsa too! So yummy! And my much needed margarita {maybe two!}

Do you have a favorite Mexican restaurant you love to go to?

I’d love to hear about it!
